Good to know before you start
Does the app hear or keep my child’s voice?
The app receives the recognized words, never your child’s audio, and records nothing. On Android 13 and newer it uses only the phone’s own offline speech recognizer. On Android 10 to 12 it hands the listening to the phone’s speech service, usually Google’s, and asks it to work offline; whether it stays offline depends on that service. The privacy policy has the details for each device.
Is it teaching phonics, or testing speech?
Neither. It names the letters and says the word. It doesn’t score pronunciation, and it isn’t a phonics course, speech therapy or an AAC system. If you’re worried about your child’s speech, a speech-language pathologist is the right person to ask.
What if a word is misheard, or has no picture?
You can add the word yourself with a picture from your phone, or open a picture jar and explore without speaking. Inappropriate words never reach the board.
What age is it for?
Generally children two and up, with a grown-up beside them. A parent can also let it listen without the button, for a child still developing fine motor skills.

Does it ever say ‘wrong’?
No. Nothing is scored, counted or corrected.
What can a grown-up change?
Behind a long-press button only an adult would notice: slow, normal or faster spelling; full, reduced or no motion; lower case, capitals or capitalized; vowels highlighted or not; your own words and pictures; and jars of whatever your child loves this month.
